Children connected to God
The texts from the Roman Catholic Lectionary for the Memorial of the Guardian Angels focus our attention on the strength of Presence of God in guiding our journey. The CCCB choice for the 1st reading from the Book of Exodus declares the power of the angel of God for the Israelites. The Gospel of Matthew reminds us of the close link of little one to angels who intercede for them. Molly Mattingly describes images of infants and parents who are agents of the protection of God for their children. Don Schwager discusses angels that show us that the universe is spiritual as well as material. The Collect Prayer requests God to always defend us through the protection of the guardian angels. Exodus 23 and guardian angels are associated in an article from the first church of the internet that ties protection to obedience. Fr. Don Miller, OFM, reminds us that guardian angels are not only for children. The ABC reports on Guardian Angels: Real? Or a Survival Mechanism? Friar Jude Winkler comments on the Diaspora connected to the USCCB 1st reading from Zechariah 8.1-8. The modern tendency to name your guardian angel is reviewed by Friar Jude and he connects Divine protection to the communion of saints. Fr. Richard Rohr, OFM, discusses the spirituality of Lady Julian of Norwich and presents radical union as the recurring experience of the saints and mystics of all religions. The spiritual universe is resonate with our experience of guardian angels.
