Glory to Support our Struggle

The texts from the Roman Catholic Lectionary today, the Feast of the Transfiguration, invite us to contemplate a mountain top experience that revealed to us the Presence of God.

Daniel 7.9-10, 13-14 or 2 Peter 1.16-19 of Friday August 6, 2021

His dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed.
Psalm 97 of Friday August 6, 2021
The heavens proclaim his righteousness; and all the peoples behold his glory.

Mark 9.2-10 of Friday August 6, 2021

He was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them.

The lasting effect of a theophany as described in the Gospel is to provide a certain contact point with the Divine that supports our struggle with doubt and uncertainty as well journey through life.

The Gospel is the story of Transfiguration. Jesus exudes the very glory of God. Elijah and Moses were figures who knew of heaven. The apostles experienced a Son of God theophany.  This was a graced moment to help struggle through the Passion and the exposition of the Love of God on the Cross. Our struggle with the role of God in our lives is lightened as the Spirit reveals the work of Divine Love in our lives.
