Confident access to God
The texts from the Roman Catholic Lectionary today invite us to contemplate God in our lives at four stops along the way. The Letter to the Hebrews presents both the all knowing Divinity and the choice of God to be human. In the Gospel from Mark, Jesus chooses to be the companion and physician to those who are publicly identified as sinners in his society. Tom Quinn shares his personal experience of Jesus that even though God can penetrate between the “soul and the spirit” we should confidently approach Him. Cynthia Bourgeault reminds us that divine love is infinite and immediate and will always come to us if we don’t cling. This is a powerful statement, so simple and yet so radical. The movement of God toward us is based on our need and is not connected to our worthiness.
