Restoration from our selfishness and pride

Numbers 12.1-13 of Tuesday August 3, 2021

When Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses they were reminded by a theophany of the relationship between God and Moses. This relationship will be the determinant of judgment of the action of Moses
Psalm 51 is the most recited penetenial prayer that seeks mercy and restoration of our path to that offered by God.

Matthew 14.22-36

Jesus is seen walking on the water towards the boat in which the disciples are having difficulty being buffeted by strong winds. Friar Jude Winkler (https://soundcloud.com/user-863663632/August-3-2021) comments on the jealousy of Aaron and Mariam in the text from Exodus and the impetuous nature of Peter in Matthew's Gospel. Friar Jude has found this passage to resonate with Psalm 23 as the Good Shepherd leads us to still water. The Church is often symbolized by a boat. We know that Church history is full of events that have rocked the boat. Faith to walk as Jesus in our salvation history has not always been strong.  Humility to seek restoration through living in the Love and mercy of the Good Shepherd has often been lacking in the corporate body of the Church, in Church leaders, and in our personal storms of selfishness and pride.  Our restoration, like Peter, begins with calling out to the Lord from our present time of struggle. As He leads us to examine our situation, we will feel the strength to be reunited in peace and reconciliation with all our brothers and sisters. Our few days of rest and recreation with family and our youngest grandchildren at Ben Eoin begins today. The lake has been stirred up by wind and rain yesterday by fair weather and sunshine are expected today. May God bless us as we gather.
