Burning revelation to encourage growth
The texts from the Roman Catholic Lectionary today invite contemplation of the confidence we have in trusting our actions are in harmony with the will of God for our lives. The Book of Exodus tells of Moses theophany that includes an assertion of God’s aseity or self-existence and a mission for Moses. In the First Letter to the Corinthians Paul shares a warning against overconfidence. The Gospel from Luke is a Call to Repentance using the parable of the barren Fig Tree to activate our self examination. Peter Edmonds SJ connects the passage from Paul and the Gospel as a challenge to us to turn away from sin and sinful habits In our journey toward wholeness, we need some course corrections to maintain our focus on Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.
