Protection Love and Rejection

The texts from Roman Catholic Lectionary today invite us to contemplate how the Promise of protection and Love in God is met by rejection in our daily lives. The Prophet Jeremiah reassures the exiles in Babylon of the protection of God. The Letter of Paul to the Corinthians is a very moving testimony to the nature of Love. In the Gospel from Luke, Jesus meets rejection in His home synagogue from those too close to their misconceptions of the action of God. We are sometimes blinded by our rigidity and seeing Jesus as limited to our own expectations. Jesus becomes a stumbling object when we see a little bit and think we can see more.
